New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sanjay Kumar Singh (IPS) to the post of Deputy Director-General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Singh has been appointed to the post on a deputation basis, with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, for a period up to January 31, 2025, i.e. date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Sanjay is a 1996-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Odisha. Presently he is serving as Additional Commissioner of Odisha Police. Singh has held serval important positions in the state government of Odisha. Currently, Singh heads the Drug Task Force (DTF) in the commissioner ate police and had launched several anti-drugs drives to burst drug trafficking rackets in the state. 

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is Indian federal law enforcement and intelligence agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The agency is tasked with combating drug trafficking and the use of illegal substances under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Established in 1986, it is responsible for coordination with the Indian state governments and other central departments, implementation of India's international obligations with regard to drug trafficking, and assisting international and foreign drug law enforcement agencies.
