New Delhi: Maharatna PSU Steel Authority of India Ltd's (SAIL) Lodi road-based corporate office has been sealed in the wake of COVID-19 positive cases found in employees. As many as five SAIL employees so far have been tested positive of COVID-19. As per the standard protocol the infected employees have been immediately home quarantined and the offices have been sealed. "This is the first case of confirmation at the Company HQ since the outbreak of the pandemic" mentioned a SAIL communique issued on Wednesday.

"The infected employees have been immediately asked to home quarantine themselves and Company's SOP to handle the COVID infection has been put into action. A Government-appointed agency has been engaged to do fumigation at SAIL's HQ at Lodi Road which is being carried out extensively for two days. The office has been closed for 3rd and 4th June and the employees have been asked to work from home" the communique mentioned further. Parallelly, the Company has also tied up with two renowned private hospitals namely Max and Apollo in Delhi to facilitate testing of employees who require the same.

The press note doesn't say anything about whether the cases were asymptomatic and the results were based on random testing or some symptoms were found in these employees and then they were made to test for COVID-19.

However, the company clarified that post lockdown since the steel PSU restarted its office in a phased manner, all the required safety measures including sanitization, thermal checking, hand sanitizers at touchpoints and fumigation as per requirement were in place.

Meanwhile, SAIL Chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary who is home quarantined has issued a video message to all the employees of SAIL units, plants and offices which advises them to adhere stringently to all safety measures at all times.

"With the detection of Corona positive cases the Company has taken all actions with the greatest promptitude and is continuously monitoring the situation in consultation with the Government agencies" the SAIL statement concluded.
