New Delhi: State-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has set a target of generating 310 Billion Units (BU) of electricity and has planned to keep capex around Rs 20,000 crores in financial year 2019-20, as per an MoU signed with the Ministry of Power.

The public sector undertaking (PSU) is aiming 10.4 million Metric Tonnes of coal production to strengthen fuel supply to its power stations. A press release by NTPC said that the targets have been set as under excellent category.

12% rise in revenue

"NTPC Ltd is committed towards enhancing operational efficiency and simultaneously aiming to increase its revenue by 12 percent by employing measures to strengthen financial performance for the year 2019-20," the statement said.

The backdrop

As per the MoU, the company is expected to ensure operational efficiency and incorporate measures to ensure upgradation of relevant technological parameters. In 2018-19, the PSU recorded a gross generation of 305.90 BU as against 294.27 BU in the previous year, registering an increase of 3.95 percent. NTPC boasts of an installed capacity of 55,125 MW.
