New Delhi: Meinhardt further expands Heritage Portfolio in India by bagging the consultancy for the project of Archaeological Experiential Heritage Museum at Vadnagar. The tender evaluation took place during a pandemic situation that required physical submission and Meinhardt was successfully appointed as the Design and Technical Agency for preparation of Detailed Design, Technical Inputs, and construction supervision for the project. The Ministry of Culture via government of Gujarat is planning to develop an experimental museum in the ancient town of Vadnagar, Gujarat.

The Directorate of Archaeology & Museums has been entrusted with setting up the Museum at the Archaeological Excavation Site of Vadnagar to showcase and create an awareness of the unique history of Vadnagar dating back to the 3rd Century BC. The Museum is expected to display an uninterrupted continuum of human habitation for over 2,500 years. The Project is envisioned to comprise of two major components, viz., a) A state-of-the-Art Experiential museum to showcase recovered antiquarian material as well as audio-visual galleries to recreate history and display the wealth of ancient wisdom of Vadnagar; b) An Experiential Walkway Gallery and Museum showcasing excavated remains conceptualized as an underground glass museum which shows the narrative of Vadnagar's growth and uninterrupted history of human settlement.

This treasure of ancient wisdom shall be an interesting combination of a site showing excavated archaeological remains on one side and an empirical museum built with advanced technology on the other. The development of the project would take place at the Amba Ghat area spread over around 4 acres of land.

Initial architectural and concept design activities, for the Museum at Vadnagar, are underway in Gandhinagar; project completion is expected in 2022. The estimated cost of this project as on the date is approximately Rs 200 crore.
