New Delhi: The government has selected Harjot Singh Sandhu (IRTS) for the appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Sandhu was recommended for the Central deputation by the Ministry of Railways. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been recommended for the appointment to the post under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. "He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the Ministry of Home Affairs," the order noted. 

Harjot Singh Sandhu's profile

Sandhu is an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer of the 2011-batch. He is currently serving as Divisional Operations Manager (Freight Movement) in the Indian Railways.

He is an Engineering Graduate in Computer Engineering from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. He has also done an MBA from Indian School of Business. He joined Indian Railways in August 2011 as Officer Trainee and raised to the current position.

The Home Ministry is also the cadre controlling authority for the Indian Police Service (IPS), DANIPS and DANICS. The Police-I Division of the ministry is the cadre controlling authority in respect of the Indian Police Service; whereas, the UT Division is the administrative division for DANIPS.
