New Delhi: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) to distribute energy-efficient piped natural gas (PNG) based gas stoves. "The MoU envisages implementation of the Energy Efficient PNG Cook Stove (EEPS) programme on a pan-India basis," an official statement said. Under phase I of the programme, 10 lakh energy-efficient gas stoves will be distributed in select cities across India. The stoves will be available to all PNG consumers in these areas, said the statement.

Two models of payment will be available to consumers — upfront or each month instalments (EMIs).

EESL expects 15-20% reduction in stove prices due to the programme

EESL will implement this programme by mobilising the requisite investment and will do procurement, distribution, annual maintenance, and warranty obligations. For this programme, using economies of scale, EESL expects a 15-20 percent reduction in price for the stoves as compared to the usual market price. EESL will also develop an online web portal and mobile app to receive the orders from consumers, along with creating a real time dashboard to monitor the orders received and delivered

Programme will lead to energy savings and emission reduction: PCRA ED

"Natural gas is a clean source of energy. This programme will not only be a boon for the consumers through the proliferation of economical, convenient and safe PNG stoves, but will also lead to energy savings and emission reduction," PCRA executive director Niranjan Kumar Singh said.

"The PNG stove developed in consultation with Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, by PCRA is more efficient and safe. The PNG stove has been designed specifically for the use of piped gas consumers. This will help in considerable fuel conservation and savings upto 25% of gas consumption," EESL managing director Rajat Sud said.
